Room in the Inn is an emergency shelter program that originated in Nashville, TN  in the 1980’s and was brought to Jackson by Area Relief Ministries in 2007.  ARM partners with local churches to feed and shelter homeless men in Jackson during the bitter cold winter months, November 1 – April 30, offering hospitality, fellowship, a warm meal, and a soft bed for the homeless men in our community.

In 2007 the program began with four area churches. Aldersgate United Methodist Church was one of those four original churches. The program has now expanded to nearly fifty churches across the city to serve the homeless of our community.

2015-2016 marks the 9th season of Room in the Inn being offered in the Jackson community and the 9th season of Aldersgate members offering their time, talents, and resources to provide for these men. It is perfect opportunity for you to help Aldersgate continue our mission focus of the past year and reach “Beyond the Walls” of this building to provide dinner, a warm place to sleep, breakfast/lunch, and fellowship for these men.

Aldersgate’s Room in the Inn coordinator, Butch Rose, said, “Room in the Inn has been such a rewarding experience to be a part of over the past few years. You are able to give so much to people that you may not normally be in contact with, but you receive even more in return.”

Have you been looking for a new way to get involved at Aldersgate? Room in the Inn could use your help! It takes a lot to feed and host 15 men! Could you and your family commit to providing breakfast for a month? Or maybe your Sunday School class could sign up to prepare and serve dinner to our Room in the Inn guests for a month or two? And men, we are always in need of two chaperones (who MUST be men) each month.
