At Aldersgate, we are committed to following Jesus Christ. The Adult Ministries Team provides study and enrichment opportunities for adults of all ages. By focusing on developing and strengthening programs that promote faith and fellowship, the Adult Ministries Team seeks to provide opportunities for fellowship and devotion to adults from all walks of life. We hope you will be able to find your place in the Aldersgate community and that you will join us on the journey of faith no matter where you may be in your life. Wednesday Night Fellowship
Join us for a monthly fellowship dinner and program on the 2nd Wednesday of the month. A catered dinner begins at 5:45 p.m. followed by a program at 6:20 p.m. Cost of the dinner is $7.00 for adults and $4.00 for children 10 and under. College students eat free! Menu and information about each month’s program is listed in the weekly newsletter (include link to newsletter which can be updated). Previous Wednesday Night Fellowship programs have included a yearly graduation celebration banquet, Frozen Carnival, local authors’ and storytellers’ discussions and presentations, and local musical group performances.
Daytime Fellowship is a lunch-hour potluck meal that meets in the Fellowship Hall at noon on the 3rd Wednesday of every month. Short, 15-20 minute entertaining and education programs ranging from community events to special interest topics. Everyone is welcome, so bring a dish or bring your lunch and come enjoy the fellowship. Past programs have included Casey Jones History, Plants of the Bible, People of Hope Church, Estate Planning, Imagination Library, Neighborhood Watch, and Habitat for Humanity. Women’s Bible Study
Small group Bible studies for women are offered throughout the year and are led by different teachers. The most recent bible study discussed the Priscilla Shirer study book of “Jonah.” Bible study schedule and discussion materials will be posted here to keep you up-to-date and can be found in the newsletter.
Pastor’s Bible Study
Small group Bible studies are typically led by our pastor, Dr. Barry Scott, on Tuesday mornings. Previous studies have included the book of Daniel and the book of Galatians. Check the newsletter and the website for current study offerings and times.
Friendship Group is a monthly meeting on 4th Sunday of each month at 4:00 p.m. in the church fellowship hall for Special Needs youth and young adults in the Jackson community.
These special day trips planned by Adult Ministries occur throughout the year to explore the communities that surround Aldersgate both around and outside of Jackson. Past planned outings have included Jackson Starlight Symphony, The Ned and Jackson Generals baseball games. Watch for notices of upcoming events in our newsletter and on the website and plan to join us on our next outing.
Single By Situation
Single By Situation is a group of adults, 40+, who meet monthly for fun and fellowship. Anyone who is over forty and finds themselves unmarried, no matter the situation, is welcome to join this group. Some of the groups’ activities over their first year have been: The AMP in Downtown Jackson, Jackson Escape Rooms, Pizza & Movie Nights, Comedy Nights, & more!
Film and Faith @ Aldersgate
Film and Faith @ Aldersgate is open to everyone! An outing with Film and Faith consists of seeing a movie at the theater as a group and having a discussion afterward on the spiritual themes and conclusions we draw from the film. Some examples of our previous outings have included God’s Not Dead, Into the Woods, and The Hundred Foot Journey. If you are a movie buff, this is the group for you!
This group meets each Monday and Thursday night at 6:00 p.m. downstairs in Wesley Hall for an energetic, fun-filled hour led by Mary Craigie. There is a small charge per session of $4 for church members and $5 for non-members.
Flex, Balance & Stretch
Flex, Balance and Stretch meets every Monday from 5:00 p.m. – 6:00 p.m. downstairs in the Epworth Room. It is designed to increase proprioception and balance, to stretch, and to release tension from the muscles. Karen Hester, Certified Yoga Therapist, teaches this class to counteract stress and ease anxiety. All levels of expertise are welcome.
United Methodist Men
The United Methodist Men’s group meets the 2nd Monday of each month, September – May, at 6:00 p.m. in the fellowship hall for dinner, fellowship and mission opportunities. All men of the church are welcome and encouraged to attend. email@example.com
United Methodist Women
Aldersgate has one United Methodist Women circle that meet monthly to experience Jesus Christ through fellowship and missions. All women are welcome to join the circle. firstname.lastname@example.org
The Martha circle meets on 3rd Tuesday at 7:00 p.m. in members’ homes.
The Adult Ministries Team is also responsible for the oversight of the Adult Sunday School classes. Sunday School classes meet at 9:45 a.m. on Sunday mornings.
